The Ultimate Kickass Workout Playlist

If you’re anything like me, you cannot exercise without the perfect playlist accompanying your workout. Like, I literally do not understand how people can workout sans music; I’ve actually gotten to the gym before and I realized I didn’t have headphones only to turn around and leave without even lacing up my sneakers…it’s just not gonna happen. So, I’ve decided to share my top workout songs with you since it’s Monday and motivation is probably at its all-time high for the week (by Friday we’ll all be listening to these songs rocking sweatpants and eating fistfuls of Oreos.)

Most of these songs have a catchy beat and lots of bass, the majority have motivating lyrics and all are 100% endorsed by yours truly. So, lace up your sneakers, pop in your headphones and turn the volume alllll the way up for my Ultimate Kickass Workout Playlist:

1. The Seed 2.0 by The Roots, 4:31

Easily my favorite running song. Great beat to kick off your workout.

2. Now or Never by Outasight, 3:37

Catchy, upbeat, fun. Perfect for a little blood-pumping cardio.

3. DOA by Foo Fighters, 4:12

Lots of guitar, great song for lifting. Best listened to at max volume.

4. Fastest Girl in Town by Miranda Lambert, 3:17

Perfect running lyrics: Ain’t no use in tryin’/To slow me down/’Cause you’re runnin’/With the fastest girl in town”

5. Right Now by Van Halen, 5:21

Most people would probably pick “Jump” as their favorite VH workout song, but this one always has my vote.

6. Lose Yourself by Eminem, 5:26

Love him or hate him, you can’t help but want to move when this Eminem song comes on.

7. Let It Rock by Kevin Rudolf ft. Lil Wayne, 3:01

Yes, totally corny, but fires me up all the same.

8. Paper Planes by MIA, 3:23

Fun and catchy with a great beat to run or pump iron to.

9. 1000 Julys by Third Eye Blind, 3:53

One of my favorite 3EB songs of all time and a great one to listen to with the volume cranked up while you grunt out some pushups.

10. Remember the Name by Fort Minor, 3:50

This song was on my Tough Mudder training playlist a few years back and I still love it. I can’t help but feel a little adrenaline rush when I hear it come on.

11. Mother We Just Can’t Get Enough by New Radicals, 5:48

This one is probably the dark horse of this playlist, because it’s not super popular (band or song) but I have always loved the beat and think it lends itself perfectly to an intense run.

12. One More Time by Daft Punk, 5:20

I’m not a huge fan of house music in general, but the bass in this song puts a little more pep in my step during a particularly demanding workout.

13. Dust by Eli Young Band, 3:18

Another great running song if lyrics motivate you like they do me.

14. Can’t Stop by Red Hot Chili Peppers, 4:29

Every playlist needs a little RHCP to kick it up a notch and this song’s the perfect one to wrap up your workout when you’re so damn tired but you just can’t stop.

Total time: 59:16

What’s on your ultimate playlist? I LOVE to find new workout music, so please leave your favorites in the comments!

We must be kindred spirits – I have almost all of these on my workout playlist too! Foo fighters and M.I.A. make me go crazy 😉

I love your playlist! I have done exactly the same thing, without my iPod there is no sense in even attempting a workout. The random songs pumped in over the gym speakers just won’t cut it!

Ok! I guess I’ve got to get with it! I didn’t recognize any of the songs until I saw Van Halen and the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Thanks for the inspiration and for dragging me in to the “now” I’m off to check out itunes. Don’t tell my kids! 🙂
